BABY’S FIRST YEAR PHOTOSHOOTS

Newborn photoshoots are incredibly popular right now, and if you landed on this page looking for one… congratulations!

However, your journey to motherhood and through baby’s first year will be full of precious milestones you will want to document with more than just a few quick phone snaps!

From pregnancy photoshoot to first birth cake smashes, here are the most popular baby’s first year photoshoots options to capture this incredible time of your life!

PREGNANCY PHOTOSHOOTS: CAPTURE YOUR BUMP!

My studio, located in Spalding, specialises in newborn, baby, and pregnancy photography – and shoots for mums-to-be are one the most popular options.

“But the last thing I want right now is to be photographed!” – you might be thinking.

This is exactly why it is so important to have a professional take care of your bump photoshoot! Choosing the most flattening light, angles, editing techniques and creating the right atmosphere is essential for creating photographs that will make you think “I am so glad I did it”.

Your pregnancy photoshoot is best scheduled around 34 weeks of pregnancy, as this gives us the perfect opportunity to capture your nice round bump while you are still comfortable to move around.

If you are expecting twins you might want to get in touch in advance, so we can plan for you to have photoshoot earlier, for example between 28 to 30 weeks.

My Pregnancy photoshoots are also available as part of a Bump to Baby Photography Package, that includes 2 Photoshoots for only £99.

NEWBORN SESSIONS: THE FIRST FEW WEEKS

Newborn babies are best photographed when they are under 3 weeks of age, as they naturally settle into those super-cute, beautiful curly poses we all love.

At Slice of Life Photography, all newborn photoshoots are baby led, meaning the entire session revolves around baby’s needs: from feeding to snuggles, to choosing the best poses and props, my job as a specialist is to adapt my workflow to your beautiful tiny one!

I recommend all parents to contact me as early as possible during pregnancy, to ensure we have plenty of time to plan styling and get you ready for the session – you might also want to keep in mind that it is only possible for me to schedule a very limited number of newborn photoshoots each month.

Since babies are unpredictable, I need to plan availability to ensure there is plenty of space, should baby be early or late!

You can expect your session to last between 2 to 3 hours, allowing us to create a beautiful gallery of images, and don’t worry: the studio is equipped with everything we need (including drinks and snacks!) to make your session a relaxing, pleasant, and memorable experience.

LITTLE SITTERS FOR EXTRA CUTENESS

As babies moves from laying down to a little sitter, their perspective changes and so does their way of interacting with the world as they become more aware of their surroundings,

This is the perfect time to capture some portraits that show your baby’s growing personality and… lots of giggles!

My “Little Sitter” photoshoots are perfect for little ones between 6 and 9 months old, when they become able to sit up unaided.

AN ALL-TIME FAVOURITE: CAKE SMASH & SPLASH

Anything better than fun, frosting and photographs for celebrating a first year?

Cake Smash & Splash photoshoots are a parents’ favourite not only because they are FUN, but they are also a 3-in-1 session!

We begin the photoshoot with some simple portraits to capture your baby in their birthday finery.

As your session will include a birthday-themed setup and matching decorations, the gallery of images we create for you will be quite unique and reflect your favourite colours (and cake!).

And now, who is ready for cake?

The second part of your Cake Smash & Splash is all about… well, the cake.

As we bring this sugary deliciousness in, we will give space and time to baby for dive in, and focus on capturing all the funny expression, and the surprise in their eyes.

And yes! This part can sometimes be quite messy, which makes it for some truly unique portraits.

Of course, there is nothing better than bubbles after some cake… but in this cake, we are talking soapy bubbles!

The last part of your photoshoot is the “splash”, to let baby relax in a miniature bathtub and capture some more portraits that you’ll want in your family album.

CAN’T CHOOSE? HAVE THEM ALL!

The most popular option for baby’s first year photoshoots by far is my Watch Me Grow package, which includes a Newborn Photoshoot, a Little Sitter, and a Cake Smash & Splash for only £149!

You can find out more about our Watch Me Grow package at www.sliceoflifephotography.co.uk/watch-me-grow-photography-package or by getting in touch.

    Mother’s Day Gifts

    Mother’s Day Gifts

    Mother’s day gifts

Mother’s Day is one of those beautiful days each year that celebrates the women that truly should be celebrated every day – mother’s – this year this ever so special day falls on Sunday 27th March.

I feel like it’s incredibly important to show our immense gratitude for Mother’s even if it’s simply breakfast in bed or a card signed with all the love in the world.

Mother’s Day is one of my favourite celebrations; as my girls have gotten older they have begun to put in so much effort with gifts and sentiments. Last year they collected rocks from my favourite beach (all in secrecy) and decorated them with doodles and quotes. They drew pawprints to represent our dogs and wrote a few lines of appreciation on each – these rocks are one of my favourite gifts and even now they are displayed proudly on the fireplace. The sentiment these rocks hold to me is unmatched and of course they cost virtually nothing.

If you are looking for sentimental Mother’s Day gift ideas for a loved one, or are hoping to send this page as a hint to your partner, then you are in luck: below I’ve included a few links to some wonderful gift ideas that hold a lot of sentiment and can be treasured forever.

    Mummy and Me Photoshoot Peterborough

    Belly or Baby Casts

The first Mother’s Day gift idea I have for you is perfect for expectant mums to be. A belly cast is a beautiful sentiment that can be loved for a lifetime. There is no better way to capture the wonder that is pregnancy than to create a lasting reminder of just how perfect mumma’s beautiful baby bump is. This belly casting kit is just perfect to set up at home and create a wonderful memory from mums growing bump: https://www.rockthebumpbellycasting.co.uk/store/p30/Rock_the_Bump_DIY_Belly_Casting_Kit.html

If belly casting is not an option, how perfect does the idea of hand or foot casting sound – just dreamy? I thought so. Imagine a forever, lasting memory in your home – the hand or footprints of your entire family (or just your little ones). This stunning gift will serve as a forever reminder of just how much your babies will grow over the year, but in some way it preserves their innocent nature as well. The stage of sleepless nights and toddler tantrums seems to fly by far too fast and yet this gift will forever remind you of that fleeting time in your life. Cast in time in Peterborough (https://www.castintime.co.uk) provides these beautiful casts and has an inclusive range of sculptures and colours to choose from. How amazing?

    Jewellery

Maybe casting just isn’t for you, but the idea of preserving the memory of your tiny human’s tiny fingers seems just perfect to remember this time forever – if so fingerprint jewellery may be the best option for you. Keeping a sacred reminder of the innocence and beauty of your baby’s first years close to your chest is simply the most heavenly way to preserve the memory of that time in your life. The amazing Jocelyn at Lasting Impressions Liverpool (https://m.facebook.com/lasting.impressions.Liverpool/) is a natural at creating jewellery that symbolises what makes your baby so beautifully unique – their fingerprints. As a baby grows so much about them changes – their face, their hair colour, but one thing will always remain: the distinctive nature of their fingerprints. Doesn’t treasuring the innocence of your little one’s fingerprints sound just mesmerising?

    Photography

There is of course the possibility that your ‘little’ ones aren’t so little anymore, or maybe the idea of jewellery or casting isn’t for you – in that case a family portrait session may be the perfect option for a Mother’s Day gift. Imagine your walls filled with the most divine images of you and your greatest gifts. With my collection of stunning dresses and gorgeous props I can create timeless images capturing the beauty of your family in a relaxed family session. Please see the page on my website https://www.sliceoflifephotography.co.uk/family-photography/

Perhaps this is your (or your loved ones) first Mother’s Day – and your baby is still cooking. If so, how dreamy does a maternity session sound? This shoot is perfect for mumma’s 30-34 weeks pregnant, not quite ready to pop, but with a beautifully prominent bump that can be showcased in a stunning session perfectly created to highlight the wonder of pregnancy. I have a collection of truly beautiful dresses curated specifically to showcase mum’s beautiful bump and the undeniable connection between mum and her soon to be baby.  httpshttps://www.sliceoflifephotography.co.uk/pregnancy-photoshoot///www.sliceoflifephotography.co.uk/pregnancy-photoshoot/

Perhaps mum is ready to pop and so the optimal window has passed – not to worry. A beautiful newborn shoot is just as perfect to capture that timeless love between mum and baby. With my beautiful collection of outfits, hats and headbands there is no better way to show love for a mum in your life than with a newborn shoot optimised for mum and baby. Of course siblings are always welcome to these shootsand parent pictures are always a joy to create as well. Do not hesitate to have a look at my website for booking information and more details of this stunning shoot.  (https://www.sliceoflifephotography.co.uk/newborn-photographyhttps://www.sliceoflifephotography.co.uk/newborn-photography/

If you do not wish to book the session for your loved one, then I have gift vouchers available on my website that can be used to gift to loved ones this Mother’s Day.   https://www.sliceoflifephotography.co.uk/photoshoot-gift-vouchers/

IDEAS FOR YOUR BABY’S MEMORY BOX

IDEAS FOR YOUR BABY’S MEMORY BOX

IDEAS FOR YOUR BABY’S MEMORY BOX

As a child and a teenager, I was fascinated with the memory box my mum had put together for me.

I used to love looking at all the items she had stowed in an old shoebox.

Over the years it had fallen to bits and was stuck together with yellowing sticky tape, but still meant the world to me, especially when I had children of my own and created memory boxes for them too.

      YOUR BABY’S MEMORY BOX: STORAGE

These days you aren’t limited to using old shoeboxes for your memory box, there are a plethora of gorgeous storage solutions available, to suit every budget.

Like this gorgeous personalised wooden memory box priced at £32.50 from Not on the high street. Or for smaller budgets this pretty collapsible storage box from The Works, for just £7.00.

There are hundreds of different options, as well as the tried and trusted shoe box method too, of course.

YOUR BABY’S MEMORY BOX: ESSENTIAL ITEMS

Anything that you feel will be memorable to look back on for years to come, for both you and your child.

You can make a start on your baby’s memory box, before they even arrive, by adding items like:

      Your positive pregnancy test

       Congratulations cards

      Your scan pictures

Pregnancy diary, we love this Mummy to-be journal £10.61 from Amazon – a cute, spiral bound notebook where you can record your thoughts and stages of your pregnancy.

Maternity photographs – whether you take your own or get professional images (learn more here: www.sliceoflifephotography.co.uk/pregnancy-photoshoot/) your child will love to see how you looked when you were pregnant, so be sure to include a couple of keepsake images.

Photos, cards, notes and list of games played at your Baby Shower, if you have one!

AFTER BIRTH: ESSENTIAL MEMORY BOX ITEMS

Once baby is here there are even more ideas for their memory box:

Hospital tags, cord clamp and hospital notes

Those first snapshots, taken minutes after they were born

A baby book – this My First Years baby book covers the first three years, with space to record those all important milestone moments, £20.00 from Iamfy.co

All the cards and a list of visitors and presents bought when you first bring baby home

Prints or folio boxes from your baby’s newborn session – taken while they are still teeny, tiny and curly – in those gorgeous sleepy poses. Learn more at www.sliceoflifephotography.co.uk/newborn-photography/

All the firsts! first tooth, lock of hair, first shoes, first birthday cards.

Hand and foot prints or casts – you can find someone local to do these for you, or there are kits available like this one from Everlasting Castings

      MEMORY BOX IDEAS

Memories are so important, so to preserve them in this way is such a lovely thing to do.

Whether you include all the things on the list, or just a few, your baby’s memory box will become something that you, and they, treasure forever.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS OF YOUR PREGNANCY

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS OF YOUR PREGNANCY

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS OF YOUR PREGNANCY

After our post https://www.sliceoflifephotography.co.uk/last-weeks-of-pregnancy/ about the last few weeks of pregnancy, we continue our journey through motherhood talking about the last 3 months before baby arrives.

        Ready?

THE LAST 3 MONTHS OF PREGNANCY

The first thing to expect is that the last three months of pregnancy is… well, a complete paradox.

        Why?

Because it will both drag and fly by!

You’ll find yourself wishing away those last 3 months, so you can meet your new baby, while at the same time panicking about how much you still need to do to prepare for your new arrival.

Now, every pregnancy is different but in general, whatever the size of your bump you can expect certain things to happen:

        Maternity photoshoots in Lincolnshire

        TIREDNESS

If you escape without that extreme tiredness where you feel like you could lay your head down anywhere and sleep for a week, then you are very lucky!

Many mums-to-be have found themselves sleeping and drooling on the none-too impressed shoulder of a travelling companion.

Make the most of this calm before the storm and rest up as much as you can.

        Maternity photoshoot

THE LAST 3 MONTHS OF PREGNANCY: ALL ABOUT NESTING

Until you find yourself with a huge random urge to sort out your kitchen cupboards and organise your drawers, you’d be forgiven for thinking that nesting was a pregnancy myth.

For many women it’s all too true – some have even gone into labour halfway through alphabetising their tinned food!

So, if you do get the urge in the last 3 months of your pregnancy, try to do all the organising sooner rather than later.

         BRAXTON HICKS

These mild contractions of the uterus can occur at any point in your last trimester.

They can be uncomfortable but aren’t generally painful and aren’t an indication of labour.

They are perfectly normal! (It’s also perfectly ok to milk it a bit – get your partner to give you some TLC)

        Learn more at: https://www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/labour-and-birth/signs-of-labour/signs-that-labour-has-begun/

        MATERNITY PHOTOS

        Yes, I know.

Chances are that the last thing you want right now is to be in front of a camera and have some pictures taken.

Most of us hate having pictures taken at the best of times, nevermind during pregnancy!

That’s all the more reason to get a specialist involved: a maternity photographer not only knows how to make the photoshoot a pleasant, relaxing experience… they will also know all the tricks, angles and lighting techniques to capture the dramatics of your body in a wonderful and creative way.

This will ensure you capture your beautiful bump with photographs you can be proud of… not just quick, unflattering phone snaps!

If you’re considering maternity photos, the last 3 months of pregnancy is the ideal time. Ideally between weeks 28 and 30, so your bump is a good size, but you aren’t too tired to do some gentle posing.

        EMOTIONS RUNNING HIGH

Pregnancy is a MASSIVE thing, not least because you can no longer see your toes!

Hormones are raging, you’re tired and uncomfortable.

You might feel apprehensive about bringing a brand-new human into the world.

All this is ok! If you feel a bit tearful, it’s totally fine to let it all out and have a bit of a weep. You won’t be the first (or the last) mum to feel a bit overwhelmed.

Talk it through with your partner, mum, friends to help reassure yourself.

        Last. weeks of pregnancy

        MATERNITY LEAVE

At some point in the last 3 months of your pregnancy, you will have made the decision to start your maternity leave.

Depending on how the pregnancy has gone, some women start this towards the latter end.

It’s a much needed few weeks to get your final preparations for baby ready.

        URINATION!

The marvellously unglamorous side of pregnancy will see you needing to pee more frequently (which could be nature’s way of preparing you for getting up in the night).

You might (probably will) also suffer with heartburn, backache and other aches and pains in places you didn’t even know could hurt.

Now is the time you may also develop stretch marks and varicose veins – the joy!

        So be kind to yourself.

Try to take things easy as much as possible and remember, everything will be worth it as soon as that tiny baby is put in your arms for the very first time.

          Maternity Photoshoot Training Day

          Maternity Photoshoot Training Day

          Maternity Photography Training Day, Lincolnshire

It is no secret that I love to learn and grow my skills within my business and 2021 was no different!  when I said that I had booked a Maternity photography training workshop with the fabulous Natasha Ince most people asked why?  ‘Your bump photoshoots are amazing’ or ‘or your maternity photos are beautiful alrellaldy’ would be the commen response.  However whilst I am greatful for this wonderfully kind workds I believe there is always room for growth and delvelopment,  otherwise your work becomes stagnant and outdated.   Ongoing training ensure that knowledge and skills are up to date and enable professionals to deliver the best possible service and I want to ensure they feel confident in my abilities to deliver an amazing experience. It is for these reasons that I continue to undertake regular training with other photographers.

Hopefully these Before, During and After compairision images will demonstrate that whilst my bump photos were beautiful prior to my training, the knowledge I learnt and subsequent tweeks to my work have indeed taken everything to the next level.

These 2 images below were taken in a bump photoshoot not to long before I attended my Maternity photography workshop.

          Last. weeks of pregnancy

These 2 images were styled by and taken by Natasha during her fabulous maternity photography workshop and I am sure you will agree are on another level to my before images above.

And finally the below images are taken by myself during my first maternity photoshoot after attending the workshop.  I hope you will agree when I say it really has made a difference.   A few small tweeks to my posing instruction and light position has made all the difference.

I will continue to tweek my practice and develop my photography skills so I can continue to bring you outstanding portraits of you and your family!

I have already noticed changes within newborn photography sessions that have taken place in the last two weeks and I cannot wait to continue to grow and develop to bring amazing baby photography to my clients.
