Are Maternity Photos worth it?
“I was meaning to get maternity photographs done, but I never got around to it.”
“I would have loved to have maternity photos, but I didn’t feel confident enough”
“Weirdly, I miss being pregnant, especially as I have no proper record of it – only badly taken selfies”
“I really wish I’d gone with my gut and booked maternity photos – but I talked myself out of it.”
“I regret not having maternity photos, so I could show my baby how incredible pregnancy was.”
These are just a handful of the regrets I hear from new mums when they have their newborn sessions with me.
SO, ARE MATERNITY PHOTOS WORTH IT?
It’s a resounding YES from me!
Pregnancy is:
Magical
Empowering
Incredible
Beautiful
And so much more. Why would you not want to have a permanent record of it?
Be able to show your child or children what you looked like while carrying them in your womb. A further bonding aid, where you both feel that deep connection, when looking back together at the images.
The only time of your life when two hearts beat so close together.
The only time of your life when your body becomes a vehicle for another human.
Maternity photos are an everlasting memory of this most amazing time of your life. They are something that can be passed down through generations to document the history of your baby.
So why not?

YOU ARE LACKING IN CONFIDENCE?
A good professional photographer will not only put you at ease, they will help you feel relaxed and empowered. So you can truly celebrate your bump. They will create maternity photos that evoke feelings of pride, nostalgia and happiness when you look back at them.

However, we ALL know how many attempts it takes to get that ‘perfect’ selfie, even when you aren’t feeling big, frumpy, tired and uncomfortable.

Of course you do! Before long a tiny baby will be the centre of your world.
Every waking moment (and there will be a lot of waking moments) will be spent caring for your new arrival. There is more to pregnancy than swollen ankles and putting weight on – treat yourself and document the glamorous, beautiful, fierce side of pregnancy!
Wearing beautiful clothes, your hair and make-up perfect – a celebration of YOU as much as your bump.
Maybe….
YOU ARE THINKING, “WILL IT BE TOO TIRING?”
This is a natural fear, as you near the end of your pregnancy even everyday tasks seem more difficult and draining. For precisely that reason, maternity sessions are kept fairly short, so as not to tire you out.
Your photographer will take things gently for you, and it will be a fun and calming experience.
A bit of a break from daily life!
So talk yourself into having maternity photos, not out of it!
It’s such a fleeting yet incredible time of your life.
I have never known anyone regret having professional maternity photos done, only those who regret not having them done. It’s worth bearing in mind that maternity photos aren’t something that you can go back and do later if you change your mind.
Don’t be one of the ones with regret!
Take a chance – you can always hide them in the back of a drawer if you don’t like them – but I guarantee that you will love each and every one of your maternity photos, and treasure them forever.
