Mother’s Day Gifts

Mother’s Day Gifts

Mother’s day gifts

Mother’s Day is one of those beautiful days each year that celebrates the women that truly should be celebrated every day – mother’s – this year this ever so special day falls on Sunday 27th March.

I feel like it’s incredibly important to show our immense gratitude for Mother’s even if it’s simply breakfast in bed or a card signed with all the love in the world.

Mother’s Day is one of my favourite celebrations; as my girls have gotten older they have begun to put in so much effort with gifts and sentiments. Last year they collected rocks from my favourite beach (all in secrecy) and decorated them with doodles and quotes. They drew pawprints to represent our dogs and wrote a few lines of appreciation on each – these rocks are one of my favourite gifts and even now they are displayed proudly on the fireplace. The sentiment these rocks hold to me is unmatched and of course they cost virtually nothing.

If you are looking for sentimental Mother’s Day gift ideas for a loved one, or are hoping to send this page as a hint to your partner, then you are in luck: below I’ve included a few links to some wonderful gift ideas that hold a lot of sentiment and can be treasured forever.

Mummy and Me Photoshoot Peterborough

Belly or Baby Casts

The first Mother’s Day gift idea I have for you is perfect for expectant mums to be. A belly cast is a beautiful sentiment that can be loved for a lifetime. There is no better way to capture the wonder that is pregnancy than to create a lasting reminder of just how perfect mumma’s beautiful baby bump is. This belly casting kit is just perfect to set up at home and create a wonderful memory from mums growing bump: https://www.rockthebumpbellycasting.co.uk/store/p30/Rock_the_Bump_DIY_Belly_Casting_Kit.html

If belly casting is not an option, how perfect does the idea of hand or foot casting sound – just dreamy? I thought so. Imagine a forever, lasting memory in your home – the hand or footprints of your entire family (or just your little ones). This stunning gift will serve as a forever reminder of just how much your babies will grow over the year, but in some way it preserves their innocent nature as well. The stage of sleepless nights and toddler tantrums seems to fly by far too fast and yet this gift will forever remind you of that fleeting time in your life. Cast in time in Peterborough (https://www.castintime.co.uk) provides these beautiful casts and has an inclusive range of sculptures and colours to choose from. How amazing?

Jewellery

Maybe casting just isn’t for you, but the idea of preserving the memory of your tiny human’s tiny fingers seems just perfect to remember this time forever – if so fingerprint jewellery may be the best option for you. Keeping a sacred reminder of the innocence and beauty of your baby’s first years close to your chest is simply the most heavenly way to preserve the memory of that time in your life. The amazing Jocelyn at Lasting Impressions Liverpool (https://m.facebook.com/lasting.impressions.Liverpool/) is a natural at creating jewellery that symbolises what makes your baby so beautifully unique – their fingerprints. As a baby grows so much about them changes – their face, their hair colour, but one thing will always remain: the distinctive nature of their fingerprints. Doesn’t treasuring the innocence of your little one’s fingerprints sound just mesmerising?

Photography

There is of course the possibility that your ‘little’ ones aren’t so little anymore, or maybe the idea of jewellery or casting isn’t for you – in that case a family portrait session may be the perfect option for a Mother’s Day gift. Imagine your walls filled with the most divine images of you and your greatest gifts. With my collection of stunning dresses and gorgeous props I can create timeless images capturing the beauty of your family in a relaxed family session. Please see the page on my website https://www.sliceoflifephotography.co.uk/family-photography/

Perhaps this is your (or your loved ones) first Mother’s Day – and your baby is still cooking. If so, how dreamy does a maternity session sound? This shoot is perfect for mumma’s 30-34 weeks pregnant, not quite ready to pop, but with a beautifully prominent bump that can be showcased in a stunning session perfectly created to highlight the wonder of pregnancy. I have a collection of truly beautiful dresses curated specifically to showcase mum’s beautiful bump and the undeniable connection between mum and her soon to be baby.  httpshttps://www.sliceoflifephotography.co.uk/pregnancy-photoshoot///www.sliceoflifephotography.co.uk/pregnancy-photoshoot/

Perhaps mum is ready to pop and so the optimal window has passed – not to worry. A beautiful newborn shoot is just as perfect to capture that timeless love between mum and baby. With my beautiful collection of outfits, hats and headbands there is no better way to show love for a mum in your life than with a newborn shoot optimised for mum and baby. Of course siblings are always welcome to these shootsand parent pictures are always a joy to create as well. Do not hesitate to have a look at my website for booking information and more details of this stunning shoot.  (https://www.sliceoflifephotography.co.uk/newborn-photographyhttps://www.sliceoflifephotography.co.uk/newborn-photography/

If you do not wish to book the session for your loved one, then I have gift vouchers available on my website that can be used to gift to loved ones this Mother’s Day.   https://www.sliceoflifephotography.co.uk/photoshoot-gift-vouchers/

    Are Maternity photos worth it?

    Are Maternity photos worth it?

    Are Maternity Photos worth it?

“I was meaning to get maternity photographs done, but I never got around to it.”

“I would have loved to have maternity photos, but I didn’t feel confident enough”

“Weirdly, I miss being pregnant, especially as I have no proper record of it – only badly taken selfies”

“I really wish I’d gone with my gut and booked maternity photos – but I talked myself out of it.”

“I regret not having maternity photos, so I could show my baby how incredible pregnancy was.”

These are just a handful of the regrets I hear from new mums when they have their newborn sessions with me.

SO, ARE MATERNITY PHOTOS WORTH IT?

It’s a resounding YES from me!

    Pregnancy is:

    Magical

    Empowering

    Incredible

    Beautiful

And so much more. Why would you not want to have a permanent record of it?

Be able to show your child or children what you looked like while carrying them in your womb. A further bonding aid, where you both feel that deep connection, when looking back together at the images.

The only time of your life when two hearts beat so close together.

The only time of your life when your body becomes a vehicle for another human.

Maternity photos are an everlasting memory of this most amazing time of your life. They are something that can be passed down through generations to document the history of your baby.

    So why not?

    Maybe………

    YOU ARE LACKING IN CONFIDENCE?

A good professional photographer will not only put you at ease, they will help you feel relaxed and empowered. So you can truly celebrate your bump. They will create maternity photos that evoke feelings of pride, nostalgia and happiness when you look back at them.

    Maybe……..

    Pregnancy photoshoot Wisbech

YOU ARE THINKING….I COULD TAKE SOME MYSELF?

    Yes, of course you could!

However, we ALL know how many attempts it takes to get that ‘perfect’ selfie, even when you aren’t feeling big, frumpy, tired and uncomfortable.

A professional has the correct equipment and lighting. A professional knows all the right angles to flatter you; how to pose you correctly.

And of course, a professional has their magical box of editing tricks to really add the stunning edge to the images.

    Maybe….

YOU ARE THINKING, “DO I DESERVE IT?”

Of course you do! Before long a tiny baby will be the centre of your world.

Every waking moment (and there will be a lot of waking moments) will be spent caring for your new arrival. There is more to pregnancy than swollen ankles and putting weight on – treat yourself and document the glamorous, beautiful, fierce side of pregnancy

Wearing beautiful clothes, your hair and make-up perfect – a celebration of YOU as much as your bump.

    Maybe….

YOU ARE THINKING, “WILL IT BE TOO TIRING?”

This is a natural fear, as you near the end of your pregnancy even everyday tasks seem more difficult and draining. For precisely that reason, maternity sessions are kept fairly short, so as not to tire you out.

Your photographer will take things gently for you, and it will be a fun and calming experience.

A bit of a break from daily life!

    Last. weeks of pregnancy

So talk yourself into having maternity photos, not out of it!

It’s such a fleeting yet incredible time of your life.

I have never known anyone regret having professional maternity photos done, only those who regret not having them done. It’s worth bearing in mind that maternity photos aren’t something that you can go back and do later if you change your mind.

Don’t be one of the ones with regret!

Take a chance – you can always hide them in the back of a drawer if you don’t like them – but I guarantee that you will love each and every one of your maternity photos, and treasure them forever.

      Money saving ideas

      Money saving ideas

      Money saving ideas

If like me one of your new year resolutions is to save a little extra money for the year ahead, or to stop impulse buying then these 5 money saving ideas and tricks might do you the world of good.

      A ‘no spend’ month

This money saving idea is pretty self explanatory, but to put it simply you choose a month (such as the upcoming month of february) and avoid spending money on anything but the essentials: for example you wouldn’t be allowed to stop at mcdonalds for dinner but you could still go to the hairdressing appointment you have booked. To make this a little easier on yourself – especially to help with impulse buying – take out all the money you expect to need to spend this month: such as bills, rent, mortgage, food shop, petrol and place it all into a wallet,  such as this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B098DS1DVW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 , store your bank cards in their too and that way you won’t find yourself tapping your contactless bank card and purchasing items impulsively, buying things you really don’t need.  This money saving idea works wonders and can really put into perspective how many little/unnecessary things we buy and how much those same things drain our funds.

This link has some great additional tips on this particular money saving idea https://www.simplisticallyliving.com/no-spend-january-challenge/

      Buy secondhand

One of the best money saving ideas I’ve come across is buying second hand, those all too expensive items such as baby swings (brand new £125 +) can be bought second hand for as little as: £40 from places such as Gumtree or Facebook Marketplace.

Another great money saving idea is ‘Nearly New sales’ set up by the National Children’s trust, the link where these will be listed is included here: https://www.nct.org.uk/local-activities-meet-ups/region-east-midlands/spalding-boston-and-district

Buying second hand is not only a great money saving idea, but can also help a fellow parent make a little extra cash from the items they no longer need.

      Christmas mini photoshoot

      Saving your £2 coins

A lot of people I know save their £2 coins, they keep them in a sealed money box or a tube and don’t open it until it’s full. Did you know that extra large smartie tubes can hold 83 £2 coins? that’s £166 from one smartie tube alone. Go ahead and put those empty smartie tubes leftover from Christmas to use and fill them up with £2 coins you’ll be surprised just how much you’ll save.

      The 50/30/20 rule

This money saving idea is fairly simple, you use 50% of your monthly income on needs (such as bills and the food shop), you use 20% on paying off loans/debt and putting away for a ‘rainy day. That last 30% you spend on wants, such as buying a coffee to fuel your day or having a takeaway one night. This website has a much better insight on this rule: https://n26.com/en-eu/blog/50-30-20-rule and helps to outline the steps of this very straightforward money saving idea.

      A simple newborn shoot

If you’re expecting a baby in 2022 and know you want to capture those precious memories of your newborn’s first days, but are worried about how to afford a standard newborn shoot then a simple newborn shoot may be a better option for you. As stated on my website this shoot is optimal if you want a ‘no frills approach’ and just a few images. As a bonus it is a lot cheaper too! For just £199 for the shoot itself and five beautiful images it is perfect for if you want to take a money saving approach.

        5 Family Christmas Traditions

        5 Family Christmas Traditions

        5 Family Christmas Traditions

Christmas is such a fun time and with the focus on family, celebration  and making memories it is nice to add some magical family christmas traditions to build the excitment and add to the magic of the season.  Here are my top picks for christmas traditions to start or build on:

        1 – Watch a Pantomine

This is one I have carried forward from my own Childhood. For me Panto represents fun, laughter and family time.  As a family we try to go on Christmas eve and make it as magical as prossible.  My girls are teenagers now but we continue this christmas tradition still and this year are heading off to The Cresset in Peterborough to scream and shout at the Dame in true christmas style.  ‘Oh yes I am’.

        2 – Make  Gingerbread House

This is a tradition I brought back from the christmas I spent In Canada.  It’s such a fun way to spend time with the kids getting creative and munching on the sweets.  If your baking skills leave a little bit to be desired (like mine) then you can buy kits ready to build in stead.

        Christmas mini photoshoot

3 – Christmas Lights Drive by

One christmas tradition  I have fond memories of from my childhood is driving around the local towns and looking at all the lights and decorations.  I recall some wonderfully decorated homes and it really was one of my christmas hightlights.

        4 – A Christmas Eve Box

This is a christmas tradition that appears to be on the rise.  A gift box filled with things for Christmas eve,  Examples of things i’ve seen to go in the box include a christmas DVD, raindeer food, New Pj’s and hot chocolate treats.  Iced Rose by Hannah does amazing Chocolate Bombs which would be a perfect box filler.     I never had a Christmas Eve box but still look forward to my fresh fluffy PJ’s on xmas Eve.

        5 – Christmas Photos

I love that I have families visit the studio every year for a Christmas  Photoshoot!   Up to date images to send to family and create gifts or christmas decorations from is a fun chrismtas tradition.

Mr and Mrs Cooper’s Wedding Day

Morton Church – Sleaford Golf Club

          Sleaford wedding photographer

Slice of Life Photography, Sleaford wedding Photographer, had the privilege of capturing Mr and Mrs Cooper’s special day.

Rachel and Ray’s wedding had been in my diary for such a long time that by the time I was final able to capture their magical day I felt like I was working with old friends.   Rachel and Ray have quiet the love story, having been together many years earlier, parting company and then finding love once more!  Like many couples their day had been re-sceduled more than once due to the Covid Pandemic but when the day finally arrived it truely was a day to remember.

The wedding day started in the lovely Morton Church,  followed by a fantastic reception at  Sleaford Golf Club.  The Bride was accompanied by 3 beautiful Bridesmaids and 1 flowergirl, and couples gorgous boy was the loveiest page boy.    The church was full to bursting with wonderful friends and family that had joined the couple to watch them exchange vows and celebrate their day.

We were able to take advantage of the wonderful autumn weather to capture a mixutre of relaxed and formal portraits of the couple both at the church and around Sleaford Golf Club!  And once again a gloroious sunset allowed for some wonderful extra portrats.

Mr and Mrs Cooper added a 2nd Photographer to their package meaning that Lisa from Nix Pix Photography was on hand to capture some extra moments too.

Sleaford Golf Club provided a fantastic sit down meal for all the guests and the formalities were rounded off with the first Dance and a wonderful father and daughter dance.   The Love and happiness throughout the day was clear for all to see.

Thank you Mr and Mrs Cooper for choosing me to capture your Day,  Here is your highlights.

Slice of Life Photography is based in Lincolnshire and available for wedding Photography across the UK.  Further details on our wedding photography package can be found via the link below.
