Orton Hall Spring Wedding

11th November 2016
I have known Lisa and Gerry for a number of years and was truly honoured when they asked me to be their wedding photographer. Every couple is unique and special in their own way but I always feel the pressure slightly more when the couple are personal friends of mine. After lots of planning the big day finally arrived and I headed off to Orton Hall. My assistant for the day Pippa, from PS Photography Ltd had not photographed a wedding at Orton Hall before so I completed a walk through and briefed her on the timetable and plans for the day, here starts my excitement. Orton Hall has lovely grounds including a beautiful field out the back. As we walk out I am greeted by a bed of blue on the little woodland, Bluebells being my favourite flower I was delighted by their presence and noted their position for later in the day.
We headed upstairs where preparations were in full swing. Abbie from Luxe Beauty was working her magic on the bridesmaids’ makeup and Hannah was busy creating beautiful bridal hair. There was a lovely relaxed atmosphere and this really shines through in the photographs.
After assisting with capturing the bridal details such as the dress, bouquet and shoes, Pippa headed back downstairs to capture the details within the ceremony room and to greet the groomsmen. As always Pippa did a fabulous job working with the men to create some relaxed shots before the service.
After a final check in the mirror we have a few moments to capture some stunning bridal portraits before Lisa has a quick chat with the registrar.
Having two wedding Photographers meant that as I captured Lisa walking down to the ceremony room with a traditional front image, Pippa was able to hang back and capture a different angle and show Lisa’s arrival from a different perspective.
Meanwhile the ceremony room is a buzz of excitement and after a slight hiccup with the music the service begins. Gerry was most definitely one of the most emotional grooms I have witnessed to date, and the service was full of tears, laughter and a fist pump on being announced husband and wife.
Lisa and Gerry were very lucky, a May wedding and just perfect weather, the guests were able to retire to the patio for Pimms and canapés while we worked though the formal photography. It really was lovely capturing the guests and the relaxed images demonstrate the relaxed, fun feel of the day.
The speeches were full of more emotion, laughter and tears all round and surprise speeches from all the ushers, all were truly heartfelt and even caught me wiping a tear or two away.
And in true Gerry style the best was saved for last and an entertaining first dance rounded of the formal proceedings. The couple and guests (and me) were in fits of giggles as no one knew what Gerry was going to-do next!
I love every wedding I capture and enjoy the variety of each one. Lisa and Gerry certainly had a wedding that reflected their fun, friendly, family orientated personalities. I hope that I did them proud by recording the day exactly how it was.

I wish you both years of love and happiness together.

Why choose Slice of Life Photography for your Newborn Photos?

Why choose Slice of Life Photography for your Newborn Photos?

Why choose Slice of Life Photography for your Newborn Photos?

    11th November 2016

You’ve just found you are expecting and are starting to think about what you need to organise. I don’t imagine that booking your baby photographer is at the forefront of your mind, but please don’t leave it till the last minute as many good specialist baby photographers get booked up early. I never had professional newborn baby photos of my beautiful girls taken and it is something that I deeply regret. Had I known then what I do now I would have been super organised, researched for an experienced baby photographer and have photographs proudly displayed in my home.

Newborn Baby Photography is generally carried out within the first two weeks of baby arriving. This is because babies spend most of their time sleeping and are still very flexible and bendy from being in the womb and the birth process. It is these qualities that help to create the squishy newborn baby pictures that everyone adores.

So why pick Slice of Life Photography to capture you precious baby photographs?

Firstly My studio is at my home in Market Deeping, Peterborough, an easily accessible location from Bourne, Stamford, Spalding and Boston. I have a lovely cosy purpose built log cabin in my garden that allows for a relaxed homely atmosphere. Many couples are surprised when they step inside and discover my wonderful studio. The space allows me to have a range of wonderful props, blankets, headbands and outfits available for you to choose from when we style your newborn session. There are tea and coffee making facilities and a lovely chaise lounge to allow you to relax whist I work.

The safety of your precious newborn baby is paramount and with this in mind, I have undertaken extensive newborn photography training and am a member of BANPAS (Baby and Newborn Photography Association), where I have access to a wealth of safety information and additional online training. With safely in mind you will find that my studio is often too warm for a fully clothed adult (so come prepared for this) as it is important that the room remains at an optimum temperature for a lightly clothed sleepy newborn. I will regularly monitor and adjust the temperature to ensure it remains around the 28 – 30° degree mark and closely monitor your newborn baby to ensure they do not get too hot or too cold. I am also a member of The Guild of Photography which again gives me access to further training. I also enter regular competitions with The Guild which means that I also gain feedback and support on improving my work and posing. Through this monthly competition I have won awards for my Newborn Baby and Wedding Photography.

Many of the images I create are in fact a composite image (an image created by combining two separate images). This is done to ensure baby is supported and safe at all times. For example, the image below included an adult supporting baby’s head, two photographs were taken with the arm on the opposite side each time, they were then combined to remove the arm in post-production. Whenever baby is sleeping in a prop or on the bean bag an adult spotter is always within reach of baby, often Mum or Dad may be asked to help with this process.

    Viewing and Ordering

Part of the service that I offer is to invite you back 2 weeks after your session to view your gallery at the studio. Images are viewed on a colour calibrated screen so you know that the prints will be an exact colour match. Viewing your newborn baby photo collection in the studio also means that I am on hand to offer advice and guidance about what products and wall art will look great in your home. It is worth measuring spaces that you hope to fill prior to your viewing and ordering appointment so you know what size products you might need. In fact, it is worth considering what rooms in your home you may want to display your photographs on before your session so that the props and colours can be adapted to accommodate this. For example, this image of baby and his older brother and sister is to be displayed in a barn conversation and Mum particularly wanted a rustic feel so we selected the old bucket prop. I offer prints, canvases, wooden blocks and a range of other products to give you great choice. You can of course also opt to purchase the digital files; however, I love to see your images on proud display in your home and the professional printing services that I access will ensure only the highest quality products for a life time of memories.

    Ongoing Service

And finally part of what I love is that many clients return time and time again and I get to watch your families grow. I offer sitter sessions (around 6 – 9 months), first birthday cake smash photoshoots, Family portraits, wonderful fine art Fairy Photography and a range of mini sessions and themed photoshoots throughout the year. I often run special offers for clients within my Facebook VIP client group to reward your continued loyalty and give something back to you.

Why not consider our fantastic milestone package as a way to record your baby’s first year?

Booking a newborn, sitter and first birthday cake smash all together means that you sitter session is FREE 🙂

Award Winning Wedding and Newborn Photographer

      2nd November 2016
Since starting my photography business just over 3 years ago I have become more and more determined to better myself and develop my skills. Not only do I have a thirst for learning but it is important to me that your wedding photos and baby pictures are of the highest possible standard. Working from my purpose-built garden Studio in Market Deeping, just outside Peterborough has allowed me to offer Newborn, Children and Family Photography in a relaxed and homely environment which in turn leads to more natural, relaxed photographs.
I attend regular training to learn new areas or build on the skills I already have and continually read and research new things. 2016 has seen me train with some of the world’s top photographers. In April, I spent 2 intense days with Kelly from Little Pieces Photography by Kelly Brown who has won photographer of the year many times in Australia. This training really helped me home in my posing and styling for Newborn Photography. In May, I spent a fantastic day finally learning an area of photography that I had longed to develop. Fran from Fran Stephenson Photography showed me the skills needed to create stunning Fairy Photos and last Sujata from But Natural Photography share her secrets for amazing outdoor portraits, something that I can apply to my wedding photography as well as outdoor family photography. In 2017 I am spending a whole week in Lake district learning lots more techniques and I cannot wait to get stuck in.
Along with this training I am a member of 2 professional bodies. The Guild of Photographers and BANPAS (Baby and Newborn Photography Association). Being a part of these allows me to tap into many learning resources and liaise with like-minded people which again helps me grow. Part of the resources within BANPAS are tutorials and learning material to ensure the safe posing and care of Newborns during their baby photoshoot.
The Guild of Photographers run a monthly Image of the Month Award programme. Each month members enter images of their choice and these are judged against competition criteria. We are then able to seek feedback and advice on our images after awards have been released. This feedback is extremely valuable as it allows us to evaluate our work and gain advise on how we can improve and develop. Since joining the Guild I have entered several images and have been delighted to have received 9 Bronze Awards. Bronze Awards are only awarded to images of a strong standard in this national competion (something to be proud of). My target for 2017 is to grow further and work on receiving some Silver Awards.
Thank you for stopping by and reading my ramblings. Here are my 9 award winning Images.
